ABOUT

In the UK there are approximately 300,000 active farms, which are responsible for the management of around 75% of the UK’s surface area. Farming is one of the core job sectors in the UK, which provides food, work and community development to people in the UK and around the world.

As a farmer’s daughter now living in the city, I continually have a subconscious longing for the rural countryside that I have been brought up in. Farming, identity and time are some of the key themes that have influenced me throughout my practice. You can see this through the use of farming objects such as fence posts, bailer twine and the variety of casts that I have done of my father’s hands that are then displayed within my installations.

Within my latest installations I have focused on the connection that the farmer has with his farm and land. This connection has been achieved through hard work, care and time as slowly the farmer makes his mark on the land. Throughout my work I have manipulated and diverse materials such as clay and plaster in order to represent this relation.
