VINCENT VAN GOGH

Vincent Van Gogh spent a period of time in Holland studying the potato farmers and pickers. These paintings represent farming well with their use of raw earthy colours which depict the hard labour of the land. There is a form of grittiness within his work that is not always seen in other paintings, this grittiness and use of dark colours displays a close connection to the dirt that the potato pickers work within. He aims to create narrative and emotion within his work and this is often seen on the faces of the people he paints.
